Converse Rubber Tracks Live kicked off with an exhilarating show from North London bands Wolf Alice and Crows on Tuesday night, in front of a packed crowd at legendary Haringey venue The Boogaloo.

Being local to the area, both bands were hyped to play a homecoming gig at the tiny pub. There was an electric atmosphere as the crowd awaited performances from two of the capital’s best young bands.

Last month, garage-rock quartet Crows spent a day recording at Snap Studios just around the corner as part of our Converse Rubber Tracks residency in the London Borough of Haringey and Wolf Alice personally selected the band to open for them at this special gig.

Crows raced through a raucous set, opening with ‘Silver Tongues’ before storming into ‘Pray’ and ‘Hornsey’. Frontman James Cox’s performance brimmed with intensity, and he jumped down into the crowd for penultimate song ‘Silent For’ before the set crashed to a close with ‘Crawling’.

As they took to the stage, Wolf Alice told the crowd how good it was to be back in North London. The band were on a high following the long-awaited announcement of their album My Love Is Cool, and minutes before the show their new single ‘Giant Peach’ had debuted as the Hottest Record In The World on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show.

The set mixed old favourites such as ‘Moaning Lisa Smile’ from last summer’s Creature Songs EP with exciting new material, including ‘You’re a Gem’ and ‘Your Love’s Whore’. The crowd clapped along to the melancholic slow burn of ‘Blush’ from the band’s first EP before Wolf Alice launched into the pulsing alt-rock of ‘Giant Peach’.

Before performing ‘The Wonderwhy’ as their penultimate track, singer Ellie told the crowd that they had only played it once before: “[It’s] a special song that we don’t always play but you guys are special”. The set closed with a rabble-rousing ‘Fluffy’.

After an impassioned shout out to the support act – “We love you Crows!” – the band left the stage to chants of “One more song!” from the crowd. Make no mistake, 2015 is going to be a huge year for Wolf Alice.
